I have a 1984 Hunter 31 and all season my bilge would fill up with black/raw water. I finally found the problem, my built in fiberglassed exhaust has a leak, probably from age. Is there a solution to this, or should I just cut it out and replace with a new plastic tank exhaust? Thanks so much, OceanDriver.

I think the exhaust box is just fiberglass. I would suggest that you consider a FG patch. That should take care of the problem.

PS: Where is the hole?

They are usually Vennalift Mufflers. You can Google Vernalift Mufflers and get their Web Site. They will have a list of the P/N's for all of the various dimensions of the muffler. From that you can determine which is yours, and if there ia a new P/N that replaces a discontinued one. I found mine on their list for my 1990 H-33.5. It had a new P/N. I haven't replaced mine, but I captured the right P/N for it.

The muffler on the H'31 was NOT a traditional unit. If Ocean Driver decides to replace the built in box with a traditional water muffler he will need to cut the box out and find a place to install a new thru hull for the exhaust hose connection and build a new platform for his fuel tank.

Not a lot of money if he can do it himself, but a lot of work.
