Allied Mistress 39 Ketch Kemah,Tx.
I'm building a website for fun and mostly about my boat and its history as well as the history of the Wright/Allied company. Anyway, I thought it also might be fun to use it as a place for others to come for resources such as weather sites, radio 'missionary' sites. That's just a nickname for volunteer services on HAM radio bands and also to build a collection of fun stuff for others to download onto their computers such as 'animations' or whatever. This will be a fun way to say thanks for all of the people on here that have made this a great place for knowledge and a passtime while at my bluewater rehab. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas that I could add? keep in mind, I am not retired so I dont have unlimited time. I already have my domain name but have not signed up for a host yet. I get by on a puter, but I am not all that savey. I am on the trial version of WEBSTUDIO 4.0. I had used the original WEBSTUDIO 1.0 many moons ago and I liked it. Thanks in advance Tony B

website

Tony, I just did a website for boaters/sailors along the gulf coast with free memberswhips and chat room. the site was built with net objects but i used a profile manager software that lets users have a listing with a bit of info abt themselves and boats they sail. Also has photo upload capabilities. If i can be of assistance let me know.

I would enjoy doing a web site

I have a web site at www.offsoundings.info that I use to host files I need to transfer or share such as this page, www.offsoundings.info/clare that shows a boat, the Clare, we built to one of my designs. I also make space available for web pages like this one, www.offsoundings.info/navl.htm for friends who have no other web presence. It would be nice to make a real front page and add forum software. Is there an easy and inexpensive way to do this? Thanks, Robert Gainer

Allied Info

Hey Neighbor! I put up a site when I started working on this other Allied Mistress. I put lots of info up on the Wright/Allied stuff you're welcome to use as well if interested. Thought you might get some ideas on where else to go with it. http://r.lee.winters.googlepages.com Lee

THANKS TO ALL

CHUCK: I only speak English not computerese, but I hope to understand some of what you are saying. I am using a drag and drop web builder. If I host with Register.com. they have the ability for forums and message boards. So far that is who I think I'm going to go with. Great little website you have there. Mine will be slow in coming. BTW, your name is very familiar. I used to live-aboard in Gulfport, and in Point Cadet. I wonder If I know you from somewhere. we werent that far apart. I see you are a tugboat Capt. Did you ever run crew boats or utility boats in the oil patch? I used to be a Capt for John E Graham. I ran both crew and utility boats. ROBERT: I think the forum part is something the host provides. I have used Register.com a few yearss back when I had a small anchor and rope businesss on the side. When you need tech support or questions answered, they actually answer the phone. Go to register.com and give them a phone call. They will let you know about message boards. LEE: I will certainly take you up on that. For those of you that are not familiar with Allied boats, there were only 60 Allied MKIII Ketch's built, all in Catskill, NY. and Lee and I have the same boats in the same harbor, i pier apart in Kemah, Tx. I'm offshore now, and the platform I'm on has a very very slow connection speed, I'll check out your website tomorrow. BTW, On the Yahoo group, someone sent me some photos of a Mistress being built in 1976. Also, I never noticed, but the Allied Mistress brochure shows my boat on the cover. Someone else noticed wwhen I said I had Hull #7. Although GF dont approve of my sense of humor at times, it didnt stop me from registering my new domain name packyourshit.net When you going to be back on your boat? I'll be home Wed nite for one week. Tony B

Webstudio 4.0

My primary web builder is Microsoft FrontPage. It was easy to use and I have learned a lot. There is also a lot of support on the Internet. Microsoft has now changed to Expression Web. This is a more state of the art program that meets current web standards. It is more difficult to use for somebody not into web building previously. I have bought this program and it has a learning curve. There are great tutorials available and your website uses up-to-date standards. I also use Webstudio 4.0 because I needed an easy program that could be hosted on servers that do not have FrontPage extensions. It is a drag and drop program, but I think that it uses unnecessary space on each page. This makes a page load much slower than it should. Here are a couple of my sites to look at: Using Webstudio 4.0: http://www.lohsa.com Using FrontPage: http://www.lakeontariosailing.com I use http://www.ipower.com for my FrontPage host server. The $7.95 per month deal is more then enough for me and I have had great service with them.

You might want to take a look at GoDaddy.com for web hosting services. We have been pleased with it.
