I was told this weekend that LED lights do not attract bugs at night. Have any of you heard this? Do you find it to be true?

Not in our experience. We use a Davis utility light with an LED bulb in the cockpit. It draws bugs like crazy. Leave it on all night and the cockpit is filled.

this is NOT true.... whoever came up with this idea HAD to be an LED light salesman without any facts or experience to back up his claims. no one else could ever think up something as silly as a claim like this. and its very obvious that those who spread the myth have no experience with lights at night either. the bugs are attracted to light, no matter its source.

like Jackdaw, we too have LED lights, and still have just as many bugs.
some evenings are worse than others for bugs, but its all in your location, the weather and how bright the glow is from your light(s) that determines if you will have bugs, and how many.... :D

Some colors are worse than others . . .

A yellow or red(ish) light is not as attractive as something whiter or worse, more blue. Doesn't mean they don't attract them - just attracts them less.

So all my new LED lights will not keep the bugs away. I figured that was to good to be true.

Cheer up. At least you will be attracting bugs with less battery draw. Maybe since you have less battery drain you can find a 12v rechargable tennis racket bug swatting thingy.
