Picked up our new 272 yesterday. Lowered the mast with an A-Frame. That was not without event, as the mast got a little off center, and when we tried to pull it back on line to lay it in a mast crutch with a lazyjack pendant, the A-Frame split. The mast fell a foot or so, but it stopped without any damage except the windex, which was apparently broken already.

We won't sail her this season. She will go in our shed til Spring. We will clean her up and rebed all her deck hardware and get her tuned up.

Thanks,

Andrew

Nice boat Andrew!
Even though you did not ask for it, I have a word of advise. You may want to remove any deck fittings you plan to re-bed now. Giving your deck to dry our a bit before sealing everything up again in the spring. . Just my 2 cents
The single best thing I did for my boat was to have everything open during the big drought we had in the midwest.

Good idea. I see no evidence of any leaks under the deck or in the cabin. Surprising since the boat was outside for 2 yrs without a cover. I am just the 3rd owner, and I get the feeling from the boat that the POs took care of it. There are no loose stanchions or other deck hardware. I like to take care of that stuff before it becomes a problem!

Thanks,
Andrew

Sealed all the major items prior to splashing in 2013.
Remove the gunwale rubber, screws and aluminum extrusion and reseal. while you have you 272 on the hard dig the sealer /caulk out of the keel attachment and reseal. also re-bed the thru-hull fittings. Also, check the stearn cockpit drain and the anchor locker drain. The old ounce of prevention / pound of cure senario..
Good Luck and regards, John

Whoa! You are WAY ahead of me here! By gunwale rubber, I am imagining you mean the rubrail? (Gotta be.) When you say the cockpit drains and locker drains, what do you do with them, pull them out and reseal or just recoat the sealant in place? Is the keel sealant in the cabin sole or around the keel joint outside? Again, do I just check, recoat, or remove entirely?

Got pictures? I will do a search on those items and see if anyone documented the repairs.

Thanks for pointing out the key areas. I know ALL boats have them (except maybe boats I can't afford!). Pertaining to the keel, does this boat commonly get the dreaded "catalina smile" type crack in the joint between the keel and the hull?

Thanks,

Andrew Price
