Our race today for the coveted bronze turkey head pre-Thanksgiving day race perpetual trophy was a bust. The race was an 11 miler in a shallow water afterbay of our Lake Oroville with a reverse Portsmouth start. I hoped the 216 would EAT the Thistles, Windmills, etc. on this course. The wind was forecast for a perfect 10 mph (even late last night) out of the North...fast enough so I can take advantage of my higher hull speed while the smaller guys would be unable to plane...except for the Pringles...Gad - four of those showed up plus another Pringle type cat I didn't recognize. Because of the U shaped course, this means I could use the asym for 75% of the course and EAT those fast guys! Actual wind was two mph (not ten) cycling down to zero. I combed my hair in the glassy water! Drat! Mid afternoon I cranked up the iron sail and towed 6 of my friends back in then went back and got a couple more. While towing, we throttled back and asked who won the coveted turkey head...believe it or not they all said I did! Like I always say, if there is no wind, try blackmail! Chortle! Reality: Going to run the same race in two weeks. You should have seen the spider webs! Hull and rigging were totally covered with strings flowing back 20-30 feet from the rigging. The boat was covered with little spiders which the admiral simply adored. NOT!But, we all have marvelous fun. "A day on the water is..."I'm sure pix will be on our web site in a couple days.
