I've found most of the interior is held together with bronze screws, the heads of which stip-out 70 percent of the time. Does anyone know why bronze screws were used in these areas, and if they're really necessary or can be replaced with screws of a harder metal. Scott Fraser Rubicon Key West

The bronze color matches better with the wood interior, but you could replace them with SS if you want to pay more.

A technique that helps a lot in getting a silicon bronze screw out is to first make sure you have the right size phillips head, and second, give the screwdriver a good firm tap with a hammer to seat it before trying to unscrew. The tapping may have to be repeated before the screw is removed.
