it's not the metal

excluding copper and some limited and every expensive other metals, most of which are too soft, it makes no difference whether you choose bronze, aluminum or steel in terms of growth. Other than frequent use as the best preventative measure, you can use one of a number of paint inhibitors to limit growth.

Prop & Barnacles

It goes with the turf. I put my boat in the water mid May. Put a light coat of Bottom Paint on the Prop & Shaft. I have used my boat 11 times this season about 17 hours on the engine. When over the side last week and scrapped about 30-40 small barnacles of the prop and shaft. Took the boat out the next day and did a full power run - picked 1/2 knot and 200 more RPM.

Not a bad idea to have a pair of googles, gloves and a paint scrapper handy and do it every 6-8 weeks.

The more you use the boat the better off you will be.
