Suggest attaching (by sewing) a small diameter tag line to the end of it, then pull it through, remove the tag line and measure. Reverse the process when installing the new topping lift.
Do you mean that the end of the topping lift line is frayed?
Do you have a pigtail wire to a back stay, or a line that runs from the boom end to the mast head and down to the mast base?
If a line, is it ran to the cockpit?
A picture of what you are describing might help us help you.
Thank you so much for the welcome and for the replies. I may have posted my question too soon. We have 3 lines going into the boom and only 2 coming out. When we look inside you can see a cable wire and a line wrapped up at one end. We will need to take the boom apart, get the lines out, and then rerig following the user's manual. Glad to be on this forum though as the help seems to coming quickly!
Attach a curved base turning block to the end of the boom. Run the topping lift thru the turning block forward to an installed cleat on the same side. Much easier
