I am a new boat owner in San Diego. CA, 72 Ericson 27', with a broken strut. I had a diver go down to check it out and he confirmed.
I was told it could be up $2k to fix. Does that sound about right?
I was wondering what are my options? Does the boat have to be pulled to fix? What if I fix it then my motor goes, and I replace it with a diesel, will I need to re-replace the strut?
My motor runs pretty good, I just replaced the cooling system head and the thermostat. It doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere and it starts right up. My only concern with the motor is that it seems to be pretty rusted on the bottom towards the stern.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
