The shaft log on my 1980 Hunter 30 consists of a bronze plate with a shaft tube. The plate is caulked and bolted to the outside of the hull. The shaft tube extends into the engine compartment and the stuffing box is attached to it. This spring the fitting leaked badly when put into the water. After removing the engine, shaft and stuffing box, the shaft log assembly was found to be cracked along its entire length. Failing to find a replacement piece, the yard is having a new one made of stainless steel. Has anyone else had such a problem with the shaft log on a vintage Cherubini? J.T.Treasure
