Hi, I have a broken Z Spar mast foot on my 1988 O'Day 222. The broken Z spar has 3 directional blocks on each side. I only use one for the main halyard. I'd like to replace the Z spar system with a hinged deck plate from D and R marine. I'm afraid that all the rigging will need to be shortened to accommodate the hinged deck plate, and that it won't be possible to run the main halyard line through the hinge plate.

Has anyone swapped out a Z-spar for a hinged deck plate? Any advice on how to proceed?

He used Trex IIRC.

When I added my tabernacle I had to cut the mast down slightly to keep the overall length the same. That kept me from having to replace the rigging.

I made my own mast plug.

I needed to cut 2" off the bottom of my mast and this mast extrusion that built works like a champ.
