***New Sailor*** Exuse the lack of Nautical terms used here.... I've done a little bit of sailing as a teen and really wanted to get into now as an adult, so when this boat fell into my lap I had to buy it. The boat is in great shape but when we tried to hoist the main sail, the line broke. Is there any options other than lowering the mast to re-line it? I really don't want to pay to have it done, and I'd love to not have to bring the mast down, but if there is no other way, I'd love some advice. thanks, Nick Barr

can you reach both ends

of the "halyard"? If yes then it is easy to reeve a new halyard. Just sew the new one to the end of the old one and pull it through. If you can't reach both ends then probably you will need to lower the mast because the jib halyard can't be trusted. If you know someone that can monkey up the mast then that is a posibility. But the shrouds and stays( the skinny wires that hold the mast up) should also be suspect.
