While reefing in the main during a hefty blow last week the mast head sheave arrived down upon us in pieces. Needless to say the main did not go up or down too well after that. My hunch is that I will need to step the mast in order to replace it. Anybody had any experience in replacing this sheave?

It can be done

I assume you have an Isomat mast like my 30. It's 2 screws to remove the plate at the top of the mast. The sheaves just lift out. Replacement sheaves are available at Rig-Rite. I found it more effective to winch my son up the mast to do it rather than have him winch me up. Obviously, this is all easier to do if you are familiar with the hardware at the top of the mast.

If you don't have the spinaker halyard rollers ...

installed ... it is a good time to run those lines as well. If I remember it right, once the cap is off everything is pretty much open and drops into slots. And as i remember there is an extra slot fore and aft. Vic "Seven" #622

Thanks Peach and Vic. My mast and boom are Z Spar are these the same? Also point well taken on spinnaker halyard, I've been wanting to get one up there since last season. I also have bulb to change in anchor light. Guess it's time!!!
