Broken Keel

Hello all my grnadfather just passed away and left me a hunter 22 with a swing keel. I have not seen the bottom of the boat yet because it is till in the water. The keel has broken off in shallow water. no damage to boat it has been in the water for over a year. I need to know where i can fin d a new or used keel thanks for the help

Foss foam or IDA sailor

Sorry to hear about your grandfather but congradulations on the boat This has come up several times recently but I could no pull it up in the archives for some reason. I searched for 'broken' and 'keel' under 22 model. I think FossFoam made the original which is made of foam center and fiberglass. The weight is in the bottom of the boat and not in the keel. Some one also has mentioned IDAsailor. If I spelled the incorrectly someone is sure to correct me. IDAsailor makes rudders and have heard the mentioned for the keel also. IDAsailor rudder for me.

I had to replace my rudder last year. I contacted IDAsailor (Joel) and Fossfoam.I chose IDAsailor because, 1) good reputation: 2) Joel (IDAsailor owner) spent nearly an hour talking ans answering questions: 3) The IDAsailor rudder is made of solid high density plastic MACHINED to shape. I'm a satisfied customer.The Fossfoam people were informative as well.I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your grandfather. Mine passed away 3 years ago. I miss him and think of him often, I always end up smiling. He was my hero. I was lucky, He made it to 90. Again, I'm sorry for your loss. Good luck with your repair.Mike
