Broken keel cable

Has anyone broken a keel cable on their 216? I don't know if I pumped once too much or if this is an inherant weakness to the system. I certainly didn't exert any special effort. There is apparantly no pressure relief system. I am not aware of any scheme to know when the keel is fully retracted. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

We broke ours

We had a guest on our boat that gave it an extra pump or two and broke ours. To replace it, we had to cut a hole through the side of the trunk but have now filled the hole with a well-siliconed bolt with large washers so if it should happen again, it will be a snap to replace. As a precaution, I am going to make spacer to put around the shaft that will stop the ram from going beyond the point where the keel is all the way up. In the meantime, I'm storing the handle underneath the cover so whoever might use it can look directly at the stop. (We have different skippers & crews that sail the boat so that showing someone exactly what to look for through the slot won't cut it. It is also hard to see into the slot on a bright sunny day.)

broken cable

my dealer at signature yachts told me about something coming, sounded like a extra shim between the cable (pully) and the top bracket to prevent the cable from jumping off. They are currently fixing my boat now (in the water)
