i have a 1998 320 and the pivioting tang that connect the boom vang to the mast has broken off. i have called the dealer where the boat was purchased and they do not stock this part, they gave me the phone number to Charleston Spar's. i have attempted to call them several times with no response. Went to thier web sit and found a list of dealers. i have a dealer looking for the part but no luck yet. Has anyone else had this happen? any help on how to get this part as i would really like to sail this summer.

Can you find a local metal shop that can

make you one? You have the pieces. They should be able to fabricate one for you alot faster than trying to order one.

Broken Boom Vang

Marty, try Catalina Parts Division. They may have them in stock. Good luck, Hank LeSieur #331

Try Garhauer!

They make the vang and I'd bet a beer they make the tang. They are super folks to work with and very responsive.

Replacement

I had the exact same problem with my 96 320. In addition, the fork at the end of the vang was also broken. The folks at Keefe Kaplan Maritime Inc (www.wwmi.com) were able to replace both pieces. I just installed them the other day and they fit perfectly. Hope this helps.

weld it

if you look around a lot of boats, you will notice that there are a lot of parts that are welded. it takes a special process, but when done correctly, it is a solid repair. also, they can build up and reinforce the ara that broke so that it will be stronger than the replacement part (that broke in the first place)
