Bringing a dink to a boat already in Mexico

We have decided to upgrade our dinghy. Our boat is in Mexico already. My wife has decided that she likes the Portland pudgy.
my question is this, has anyone brought a dink across the boarder (not on their boat)?
My theory is that it should be covered on our TIP for the big boat.
but am not sure how the Mexican authorities will see it.
Is it best to just find something down there? (Though it would likely not be the pudgy)

I brought an Achilles inflatable across the AZ/MX border with no problems.
You may have to pay a duty if the border officials want to get technical.
