My 87 Hunter 28.5 trips the breaker to the steaming light(the light halfway up the mast) Any ideas or maybe some has a wiring diagram tht shows connections as climbing the mast will be my last resort.

Mast Base Connector

Usually you can open the circuit at the mast base on the inside of the boat at the compression post. You should find a terminal block that seperates the mast wiring from the leads that go to your electrical panel. You should find anchor light and spreader light wires to be about 14 gauge. Take these loose and try the breaker. If it doesn't trip, then you may need to climb the mast to check the other end of the wire. Good Luck, Bill

Try this http://www.ayesail.net/sailing/Hunter/Hunter23_45/index.htm It shows the general wiring diagram as well as the wiring assignments, in the harness. Look under "H28.5 Electrical..."

mine did it last year

Seems that when my mast was raised last spring, the crew accidently crimped the wire with the mast and shorted it to the mast. If you are tripping the breaker, best bet is you are shorted someplace. If you just had your mast raised, I would suspect you have broken a wire inside the mast.

Maybe the breaker

Had the same problem and it turned out to be the breaker was malfunctioning. Check it before you climb the mast.
