Howdy Sailors, I just bought all new seacocks for my boat but noticed / realized they are brass. Now, this boat will not be going into salt water for several seasons. Now will the brass seacocks be okay for fresh water? When and if I take this boat to sea, I will replace for bronze.

them now and get bronze. Along with the additon cost in a few years, why go throught additional work. Just do it right the first time and you will not have to worry down the road.

Ball Valves

What type of through hull's is your boat equipped with? Bronze, or plastic (Marlon)? The threads are slightly different on each, and you can't really put bronze ball valves on plastic through hulls, and vice versa. I believe that the threads on the brass valves would mate with a bronze through hull, but I wouldn't do it because of the previously mentioned galvanic corrosion. If your boat has plastic through hulls use Marlon valves made for the marine enviornment, if bronze, use bronze valves made for marine applications.

It's Marelon, not marlon.

Stu is correct... Marelon is NOT plastic!!!! (see the link) And you can mate Marelon with bronze or other metal fittings.

Spelling

Yes I should have checked my spelling, but you knew what i was talking about. I did not say 'Marelon' was plastic, but the through hulls that the ball valves screw onto are a white plastic like material, and I'm not sure what they are, but the Marelon ball valves on my C36 are black. Marelon is a glass reinforced plastic.
