Brand new coolant pump fail.

I posted previously about the coolant pump failing after only 5 years. Original had lasted 31 years. Well, I just installed a brand new one. It lasted 3 seconds.
Huge pain to install. 3 hours. Not technically difficult but have to drain coolant, remove fan belt, hoses, pump, scrape, reinstall, pour coolant, bleed system etc. Plus it’s small work area, my back hurts, messy, more whining. But I got it all together no issues. Until I started the motor. 3 seconds later the belt starts squealing. I shut down. Inspect. Pump is seized.
Box says made in China. I knew it was a knock off so not surprised. I’d seen that others had decent luck with knock offs.
Although I was surprised when I also discovered that the one that I took off, the 5 year one, says BTK on it. Chinese. The vendor had it packaged in Kubota wrap, and sold it as original equipment. And charged me $120. It was Yacht Supply Depot, which is out of business. Probably because they were con artists.
So now I have to find a true original pump. And do the whole thing over again.
No more Chinese.

How much wanna bet the oem is made in China ?

Macbooks and iphones are made there, for example.

Everthing is made to a price point.
At least with oem or actual good brands, they have better quality control, nevermind materials.

Yes, lots of stuff made in China, including OEM parts, BUT...
A knock-off part packaged as OEM is a crime.
And, stuff that 'looks' OEM in the online picture often isn't the same at all.
I have bought a couple of items that looked the same, just without the brand stamped on the part and thought, "Oh well, it'll probably work OK". WRONG.
I've had to replace both of them with the brand name parts when the cheap,
knockoff crap failed.
So now I buy the stuff that matches the original part out of the box, not just in the pic.
I save by buying from the SBO store, or Defender, etc. and not from Worst Marine.

Rant Over.

You have 2 pumps now I'd rebuild them both get a puller from auto parts store ( they loan them) pull units apart take to industrial bearing supply and get bearing and seals and put back together

Taking a guess that your engine is a Universal M25 which is actually a Kubota diesel. The loacl Kubota dealer will be able to sell you a pump from a part number but typically won't be able to lookup a marine part. It helps if you can find the Kubota model D850??, D900?? D950??. There is a Kubota model and serial number in the vicinity of the high pressure pump. The data attached is from my old C30 and was a Kubota D950 equivalent. I think I actually bought my water pump from one of the auto parts places.

Agree.
The bearings are usually why the lower quality aftermarket pumps suck.

The pumps are often rebuilt original castings with markings ground off. So no problem there as long as they are in good shape.

Simple enough to buy top quality bearings and seals and rebuild them.

Often the oem bearings are not top of the line, so it can end up being an upgrade.
