After 15 years of service, our 7000 BTU reverse Air Conditioner needed to be retired and replaced. The Brand Name was Marine Air Systems® a reputable, and reliable provider of marine environment equipment. They have world wide distribution and made in USA.

Simple task, buy a replacement cooling unit and maybe use the existing thermostat and power control box, sea water flow, and slide it into the same OEM compartment. As I have found, relatively easy to access for items on my Hunter.

The rest of the story....:banghead:
1) The Marine Air Systems® now make 6000 and 9000 BTU units. Not 7000.
2) The compartment wasn't deep enough to upgrade to 9000.
3) Ok find the best price for a 6000:).

Family help...
My son-in-laws had just replaced and upsized their Marine Air Systems® and were advising and bragging of their find, albeit tight fit, at major discounted price and same BRAND.

The Web Search...
1) I found/researched 5 different major brands to find a unit that might be ≥7000 BTU to upsize my unit.
2) The major problem was stowage compartment fit. ( oh really on a sailboat, nahhh)
3) I finally found a 8000 BTU that would fit.:) But... ≈20% overpriced.

So the moral to the story and what is the Title to this Post...
Both son-in-laws said Don't spend the extra $600 and go with the Marine Air Systems® same brand they got and the 6000 BTU's.

They actually bought a non-USA knock off of Marine Air Systems® called...

MarinAire®

My son-in-laws were dumbfounded and pride saving said, "Well our cools great!"
True and I NOT condemning or impuning that brand name.:)

But since my new unit didn't required and new thermostat or new signal cable re-run the new 8000 BTU was really only 2% higher, Same Dometic® company that makes Marine Air Systems®, CruiseAir® and my new unit Dometic Turbo® and made in Florida.

Jim...

PS: My brain hurts from all the research and phone calls to vendors to get this all straight!

My new Dometic® 8K BTU has work flawlessly for 2.5 years now.
It alone runs to dehumidify and maintain enough winter time heat to allow me not to "winterize" my boat. Very quiet too!

My system is a Dometic / Cruise Air. Generally satisfied over ten years. Had to replace a relay five years ago and a new circuit board last summer. Previous owner had it professionally installed. Cools & heats well: however, the split system is much too complex for a 35 ft boat.
Check out Flagship; they advertise that their systems are simple and don't incorporate electronic boards. They can also manufacture a unit to fit your size / space requirements. Manufactured & sold directly in Florida.

My 8000 BTU did not get wet.

My newly installed one, March 2020, got dunked.

Ready to install it soon.:)
