We have a Lewnar 185tt bowthruster in our Beneteau Oceanis 36cc. The thrust has suddenly become poor, is hardly able to push to either side and motor is having a " new" sound.

What I have checked so far is

1. Voltage on motor (13V when idle and 10V when running)
2. Propeller for debris ( no debris, all blades are intact and the propeller is easily turned by hand)
3. Brushes (managed to get one out of the housing. It had required length and was in ok shape)

Anybody with similar experiences and/or an idea of what can be wrong

Have you checked the shear pin? I have a 185 and had a similar problem - eventually the motor ran but prop wouldn't. You can remove the motor (4 bolts) and lift which exposes the drive shaft and pin. Toughest part is lifting the motor (about 25 lbs) in a tight space and then alinging the shaft and fork. All done while the boat is in the water.

If you want I can email photos of the connection between the shaft and motor.

No I have not yet checked the shear pin. I would appreciate if you would mail the photos.

Do you think 13V on the thrusther when idle and 10V when running could be he problem ?

Our thruster weakened to the point of being useless. The dedicated battery was bad and once replaced all the performance returned. 10 volt is flat for a battery, fresh it should be 13+. On the 43, the thruster battery isn't charged off the battery charger, only off the alternator. The challenge is when you first start up and want to use it, its weakest as it hasn't had sufficient time to regain charge. Swap out with a known good battery and see if you get the performance you expect.

Voltage goes from 13,3V to 12,1V on the connections on the battery and to around 10V on the connections on the thruster. Will this indicate a flat battery ?

Uninstalled the motor and discovered the drive pin was broken. Installed a new and now the thruster works again
