Took the welded mess off our bow today. Looks like several mods to stock and then small boat rollers welded on. Rollers too small, to flimsy for adequate anchors. question. Is the rectangular plate on the bottom a stock piece? I am tempted to just replace the chainplate for the forestay and bolt down decent sized windline anchor rollers on the deck.

Does not look original Bill. Not sure if you can garner anything from my picture. You really can't see the plate but it seems plenty heavy. I simply added larger side plates to the existing bow roller. Then a big bolt and a trailer roller on the end. Handles my CQR with no problem. I made it long enough that the CQR shackle clears the anchor locker. It is right against the Sampson post.

My CQR is 45#, 3 1/2" across the knuckle. 25 to 30 inches long with swivel. Current plan is to remove Samson post for more room and add 2 cleats along side the anchor locker doors. Will take some pics later today .

I think the original owner of my 37c had this custom bow designed. I don't need a sampson post, as the 2 side cleats are extremely strong. Note the underside picture showing how its overbuilt.

My Delta is a 35 pounder, and you can see the holes for the lock-pin don't match. Sooner or later I'll fabricate something.

One more thing, it rings like a Bell, when you hit the seawall while docking 8^)

That is a nice setup. But to get up under that bow to work has to be hard. I did that once when I had the entire v-berth bulkhead and cabinets out of there. Still working around the anchor locker box is a hassle. I really like my Sampson post. I cannot imagine my hurricane anchors tied to those little cleats. Pictures are when I was working up there to install the hawse pipe down to the keel.

On Midnight Sun, I carry a 25# CQR on the bow roller as a lunch hook. It fits great with the shank going under the port side of the bitt (samson post was something attached to the keel and used for towing another vessel according to the Chief Boatswains mate when I was in the Navy, but has morphed into what yachtsmen call the square thing on our bows with the two arms coming off of it. Someone tell me to shut up now) I never bothered tying it down and it never came loose in any weather. My boat has weathered two minor hurricanes with lines just secured to the bitt, and one stronger one with the anchor line led aft through a couple of snatch blocks to the primary winch, which I think is the strongest place on my boat. My Lewmar 46's are back plated with 1/4" aluminum plate.

A friend asked how I was spending my time. I took this this morning. Don't yet know, but don't think there will be room for the sampson post between the cqr #45, the chain stopper and the windlass. Drilled 1/2" holes in the first windline anchor roller today. Very slowly.

Maybe mount on bow tomorow. new chain plate (wrong words) for forestay was promised this week, but it's 1 pm on Friday, 95 and humid. Prospects are dimming fast as the metal shop is not air conditioned and it it right aroud the corner from a very popular sports bar.
