I'm planning to retro-fit a bow thruster on my 2007 Hunter 45cc. I understand that Hunter offered the Side Power SE60 as a factory installed option; but have heard that some owners felt that unit was under-powered (132 lbs of thrust). The next sized Side Power SE80 provides 176 lbs thrust. Any feedback from 45CC owners would be appreciated.

I have a 356 with a SE60 installed. It works ok so a SE 80 looks ok for a 45

Mine works fine. Only thing is that if it is over-used in a particular docking event, it will shut down due to thermal overload.

I just installed by myself a Lewmar 2.2kw as per Hunter's SOP. It is rated at 92.5 ft/lbs. It works well on my 41DS. I docked a week ago in about 24 kt wind and it really saved me. I think that the unit Hunter specs for your boat will work fine, but it can't hurt to have more thrust. On the installation on my 41DS, space was very, very tight for the tunnel. The diameter of the Lewmar tunnel is 6", I don't think it would have been possible to install a larger diameter tunnel, so the 2.2kw is the most powerful unit that would fit. I think you would need to make sure the larger unit will fit in the 45CC. I would also suggest getting from Hunter the SOP for your installation, it was very helpful on my installation.
