I am considering putting a seat, teak or starboard, on the bow pulpit of my Hunter 34. Has anyone done that and do you have any suggestions? What is the maximum weight of a passenger on such a seat? Mounting suggestions? Etc?

Use STARBOARD

I would recommend STARBOARD becasue of the maintenance issue. Also I would recommend using the clamps shown on page 811 (H) Steering Pedestal Clamps of the WM catalog. By using these clamps you can easily remove the seat when you want. I used them on my STARBOARD stern seats and pedestal table. The best palce to get STARBOARD is at a local plastics dealer and not WM or BOATUS. Look at the starboard website and call some of the distributors like Laird Plastics or US Plastics. They are alot less than the marine stores.

Just do it!

I'd have to agree with Ron about using poly board. There is also a product called Plasteak that you may be interested in. (www.plasteak.com) Teak looks better but who cares? The birds will like to crap on your teak a lot better than the plastic look!

Steve, are you talking about the Cal. Condors?

I understand they are really bad.

California Condors will sink the boat!

Ron: The California Condor will sink the boat if they crap on it. Actually they are no worse than any other 'old Buzzard' that they may have aboard!

Best Seat in the House!

I put one on my H450 since the Attorneys stopped Hunter from putting them on new boats. I have really enjoyed the seat, especially when the dolphins ride the bow wave. I made mine of two six-inch solid teak boards rounded to fit the curve of the bow. I decided against Starboard because it is so slippery. Perhaps some scoring across the Starboard could help. Of course if you use Starboard the Condors won't be able to stand on it to make deposits. They taste just like turkey, by the way.

Bow Seating

Any chance you could post a pic of your bow. This sounds like a great project Bob. h456/Song of Texas

Install seatbelt

If you are concerned about slipping off install a seatbelt. Your boat policy will probably require one anyway.

lake boat?

Larry, if you're going to keep that boat in Kentucky Lake, no problem. But if you're thinking of an ocean passage at some point you might want to think twice. One good bash into a square wave and you'll rip your pulpit out if the bow seat catches water. It wasn't just because of attorneys that the various boat manufacturers stopped making bow seats; it's a fundamentally bad design to put something up there on the pointy end that can catch a wave.

Seat

Put one on the bow pulpit of my 420. Used 1/2" Teak plywood, cut to shape. To attach it, I used 4 "boat-hook" clips that clip it to the bow pulpit SS tubing. Makes it easily removable, when you don't want it there. Works great.. Buck
