Bow pulpit for an Oday Daysailor

My wife and I are both 79 years old and I feel a bow pulpit on the Daysailor would be an appropriate safety measure any.

Has anyone ever put one on their Daysailor and/or does anyone know whether there is one that could be fitted to our boat. Someone suggested we might use one made for the 22 footer. Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this issue.

I feel like that would still be too big. I've never seen a pulpit on a daysailor, but maybe if
you look at the cape dory typhoon or something small or in the neighborhood of a 17 or 18 ft. boat. Maybe contact This Old Boat and speak with them personally for some
direction.. Just an idea

I have a 1976 Day Sailer II, but can't image a bow pulpit on one. I try to avoid getting on my bow as much as possible as my knees aren't what they used to be. I have all my lines run back to the cockpit, including a jib downhaul line to be able to drop the jib (and secure it) from the cockpit.

You might try checking on the Day Sailer Assoc. forum, http://www.daysailer.org/ I seem to recall a post discussing this subject in the past.

Hi Bob,
my last boat was an 18 foot "Sandpiper 565"
It had a nice SS bow pulpit as you can see in the picture.
The Sandpiper was made in Canada and the company still makes their line of nice CL12, CL14 and CL16 sailboats in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada.
They also still supply the majority of parts for the Sandpiper.
On their website they have a parts list for the Sandpiper.
Here is the link to the parts list, you will see the bow pulpit listed at CDN $270.00.

I hope this helps in any way...........
John

PS You may want to try D&R Marine to see if they have one!

I think you will find that a bow pulpit will be more in the way than any possible help o na little boat like a Day Sailer. I'd look into changing to a roller-furling jib to reduce the need to go forward. A jib downhaul is one idea that I have used on mine to reduce the need to go forward if I'm alone.
The Day Sailers made by O'DAY of Japan have/had bow and stern pulpits........ I think they look ridiculus on such a small boat. But, perhaps a MARINER bow pulpit would fit??

Re bow pulpit

Hi John,

Thankyou for the lead. I went to the C&L Boatworks web site (http://www.vaxxine.com/clsailboat) as you suggested and will contact them today for the dimensions of the Sandpiper pulpit. I'll let you know if it appears to fit the Daysailor.

I am new to this site and am really impressed by the immediate responses to my query. Thank you all.

Bob
