Bow mounted anchor

Has anyone out there ever tried to mount an anchor to the bow of their
vega? Was thinking cutting a hauser(sp.?) pipe forward of the bow
cleat between it and the fresh water inlet, and using the space forward
of the V-berth as a chain locker. Any feedback would be useful.

Thnx

I mounted my hawes pipe off-center, and just a little forward of the
bow cleat, to avoid cutting a hole in the wooden deck beam.

I could not put a pipe due to size of chain and
interferance with the windlass, made a hole through
the deck at the wooden deck beam (a mall part of it).

You can fit 100 Ft of 3/8" chain confortably, the only
problem was when waves would come over the bow, they
will come into the cabin (spray nothing much, but when
underway a bit of anoying), overcame this by cutting a
piece of ruber to fit through the chain.

As it happens I have just fitted an anchor bow roller on which the (CQR-clone) anchor lives. It is a Plastimo double roller, model 39386 which fits nicely in about the same place as the original bronze roller on starboard side and works very well with horizontal manual windlass (centrally, just aft of cleat) feeding into (new) chain hood to the port side. Have about 35 metres of 8mm chain in the space fwd of V berth. Will post pictures but will take a week or 2. It is so much easier not having to handle the anchor or chain! ___________________________________________________________
