Bow Leak

I have a leak when it rains and it seems to be coming in from the deck somehow near the bow. The carpeting on the wall and the plywood cushion platform in the forepeak are stained so I know it's coming from up above. The anchor locker is watertight and self draining so I don't think it's coming from there. I had the boat hauled to my house so I could get this thing fixed. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Me too!

My 26.5 had a similar problem. I discovered several causes. 1)Inspect inside your anchor locker with a magnifying glass. I found a couple of places where the epoxy had not filled the weave of the mat and had left pinholes in the floor of the locker. 2) This is especially important at the very bow where the locker deck is below the drain hole. 3) Where the rear anchor locker bulkhead meets the underside of the deck you will find a gap. I found carpet from the v-berth overhead exposed in the locker. Seal this with expandable foam. Please let me know what else you find. Wright Ellis S/V Whisky II awellis3@yahoo.com

I am not alone!

Wright, I think the expandable foam is the answer. Did it work for you?

I had the problem on the Legend 37

I found the problem to be in the anchor locker. I think the other poster is in the ballpark. On mine the anchor locker is a "pan" that fits into the anchor locker cavity. This pan is glassed in along the edges. Mine developed some minor cracks along the seam. Probably from some sort of flexing. So any time that water ran into the locker, be it rain or seawater washing over the top, the water would run to the drain hole, but would encounter the hairline crack first. And then it would leak in. I used a silicone seal applied with my fingertip to seal the parted area (very small crack) with ample overlay. It solved the problem.

Had same problem

My bow leak in my 26.5 was so bad the front storage locker would darn near fill when it rained. I chased my problem down to the meeting of the "rear" top of the anchor locker to the bottom of the deck. Both corners were not covered well enough when glassed in. A liberal amount of silicone seal solved the problem. I sealed from the locker side then went into the cabin, pulled back the carpet and sealed from the cabin side. No more leaks. My problem was agravated because I installed a through deck hole to lead the roller furler sheet through as the drum sets in the anchor well. I thought the leak was around the through hole and spent a couple of years chasing the problem at the wrong spot! But hey, at least I was on my boat!

Check the anchor locker drain

Had similar problem, drain was partially clogged with anchor debris and locker was not water tight. I keep an 8" piece of insulated # 14 wire in the locker to clear drain. Haven't had the problem since. Glenn WindWisp 26.5 Hunter

Foam works

BUT... read the can and heed the temperature limitations. For instance if it says use between 50 degrees and 150 degrees this means for the entire 24 hour curing time. Cool nights can turn the foam to a powdery fluff. (Ask me how I know.) Must do the job in the warmer weather. But yes, it worked.
