Bow Eyes

I need to replace the two rear tow/safety/bow eyes on the transom of my Lofland 17. The ones that came out appear to have 1/2” diameter shanks roughly 3” long with a 1” hoop. Although all my searching has shown all the 1” hoops to be either 3/8 or 5/16 shanks. Anyone have a source or know of a company that produces a bow eye with a 1/2” shank? If I have to, I”ll use a smaller shank with a spacer to fill the void but I’d prefer not to. Any info would be appreciated.

You could eliminate them. I think those bow eyes are used to attach straps when the boat is trailered.

I don’t want to eliminate them, they are the primary mount for my rear mast/boom rack when I trailer/store the boat. I will try to get a picture up when I get home from work today. They are essentially identical to this just with a 1/2” shank not 3/8”

Without a picture it is hard to say, but could you fill the holes and redrill them to 3/8? A 1/2" shank seems like overkill.

Did my picture not come through on my previous post? Yes I could fill and re-drill. But that’s far more effort than should be required. And if I were to go that route I would probably go with bolt style eyes instead. It seems I can get 1/2” stainless lifting eye bolts that with full the void and function for my needs they’re just more expensive. I’m just surprised that it seems none of the manufactures make a replacement with a 1/2” shank. These have been used on boats big and small forever.

That’s a great link, but apparently none of the dealers around me can get the ones in the size I need.

Be aware, if you do find one of those Seadog eyes, that their product description says they’re designed primarily for inline loading, and only limited side loading.
