BOW DAMAGE

Recently my Cat 22 sustained damage to the bow from a pier. The gelcoat is cracked, and the rub railing is bent. Also the filler that keeps the top of the boat together with the hull has become seperated. I guess I could put somekind of filler to seal up the boat seam again. How do I fix the rest? There is no really serious damage I would say. Thanks, Mike.

try this

I sustained minor bow damage and repaired it with MarineTex epoxy. Works very well and blends in with the gel coat. I have also used it on minor cracks in the gel coat by spreading it into the cracks with my fingers. It is sandable but I have never gotten around to actually sanding it perfectly smooth. I am not a fanatic about appearances since most of my sailing is done avoiding other water craft! MarineTex is quick, easy and realatively inexpensive. The perfectionist may seek a more eloquent solution, and there are many.

If your boat is an old one, you ought to get a kit to tie the forward shroud plate to the trailer tie point, to help keep the deck tight to the hull. Catalina Direct sells a simple kit that is easy to apply from way up front inside the cabin.
