Bow Cleat Bolts Breaking

Anybody on the 240 or 260 have problems with the bow cleat bolts braking? Has it happen twice now. May have to drill and tap new3 holes.

In what way are they breaking? Are the nuts sheering off the bolts? Are the bolts shearing in half? Are the bolt heads deforming or pulling off? Give us a few more details, please.

Might be a blessing in disguise. Think what could have happened if the bolts didn't break - whole cleat ripped straight out of the deck taking much fiberglass with it?

Maybe better to absorb any snatch in mooring lines to limit the loads.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. The forward broke before near the head, and the back bolt was bent. I tapped out the forward bolt and replaced it and the back bolt. Now the forward bolt broke about half way and I can't get it out. Debating what to do. I might move the cleat either forward of back and re-drill the holes or do the lazy thing and just put some 5200 in and hope for the best. OK I probably will move the cleat

On my H-26, my bow cleat is still intact, but I added 2 additional cleats about a foot aft on each side. I accessed through the anchor locker. I installed two 6" screw in access plates inside the locker and backed the cleats with large stainless steel fender washers. If you add cleats, recommend figuring out what size you need..... and then get the next size LARGER!! BrianW

Never had a problem with these on my 2002 H260. I only use them for mooring lines in a slip, so they get little stress.
