Bow bulkhead beneath v-berth problem.

I have just agreed to purchase a 1995 Hunter 26. Boat looks good but the bow bulkhead under the v-berth looks as if the plywood is pushed inward a litte and the gel coat is popped off in spots. I assume it is just a hollow space in front of the bulkhead to the bow. Any ideas what is going on and if it is a problem?

I'm Guessing the Finish on the Bulkhead

Is what you are refering to. Not a big deal if so it just covers the void beneath the anchor locker. A couple of screws is all it would take to remove it. It is just plywood coverd with melamine, formica or somthing similar.

re: bulkhead

Thanks, I assumed it was just a void in there but it's really the only thing that I saw on the boat that looked problematic. The boat looks great and I will send the final check to pay the balance this week. Now I'm just waiting for the snow to go away!

Bulkhead

If it is the area that Rick mention forward of the v-birth, you might check the anchor locker drain to make sure it isn't leaking into that area.

Another Thing to Check

The U bolt that is used to lift the mast in the bottom of the anchor locker. The holes were way big on mine and it leeked evertime I washed the anchor or line. I removed it and put in a big padeye with a backing plate now I don't hear creaking and poping when raising the mast.

Check the bow eye too

This is another minor thing worth reenforcing. The bow eyes on the 23.5 were only bolted through some wood and fiberglass. I followed the suggestion of someone on the forum and bought a 12 inch long piece of 1 1/4 inch diameter galvenized pipe to reinforce the bow eye. Drill holes in the pipe to match the bow eye holes and bolt the pipe to the back side of the bow eye. It will reinforce the bow eye tremendously. The bow eye bolt should be long enough mine was. Good luck.
