Bow, Anchor Roller

I'm planning on adding a 4 inch wide anchor roller on the bow of my 37C. I noticed while shopping in West Marine the other day, that a 4 inch anchor roller costs about $60.00, while a 4 inch boat trailer roller costs about $6.00. Can someone tell me why I should pay $60.00 for an anchor roller rather than buying a boat trailer roller for $6.00? Bob Miller "Gusty Getaway"

Where are you going to put it?

It would seem that the bigger problem is where are you going to mount it?

Good Question, Gene.

It's a little hard to describe without a drawing or photos, but here's my plan. I'm going to have two stainless plates made up which will be bolted or welded onto the sides of the two existing outside plates. The two added on plates will extend out (forward) and be bent in to provide the 4 inch space between them, since the two existing outside plates are more than 4 inches apart. This will place the new, single 4 inch roller forward of the two small existing rollers. The problem I'm having, now, is the anchor chain and shackles are too big to roll over the top of either of the two small rollers. I'm just getting started, but I'm intending to make the profile of the new plates such that a pin can be inserted through them and through the trip line hole on my CQR to secure it when not in use. I'm going to try this approach because it sounds simple and relatively cheap. It might be a month or two before I get to it, but when I finish, I'll post pictures. Hope it works. stock rollers

I originally bought the off-the-shelf roller for the Bruce. I can tell you it is crap, I sent it back to Boat US. Actually, it was so unsuitable I got Boat US to send the UPS guy to pick it up at their cost. There may be other stock add ons that do work well, can't say from experience.

Ed, to answer your question.....

I plan to mount the 4 inch roller forward and just enough lower than the two existing small rollers to allow the anchor shaft to still line up and lay in the original slots, once the shaft transitions from vertical to horizontal. May take some manual aligning, but we don't have a windlass, anyway. Bob
