Bow anchor locker on 1986 C-22

On our 1986 C-22 the anchor locker is in the bow. I do not understand why there is such a large opening for this locker (see the attached photo). It seems to let in a lot of water. I assume this is the design. What do other people do about the opening? Do you let the water in? Or, do you have a way to prevent water from getting in?

no big deal

if you do dunk the bow it is only a few gallons and it will drain out in a few minutes. mg

Does more good than harm

The large hole allows for the rode to ride to port or stbd cleat when anchored. It ventilates a wet rode to help dry it out afterwards, and I guess one could also say it may wash out the anchorlocker from mud and etc. when you do take water in. Just have to be sure the scupper is clear to drain.

Just be glad you have one

Your lucky you have one, older c22s don't even have one & I wish mine did.
