I have had key locks on my boat. I of course have got to the dock with the wrong set of keys and could not open the boat. So I have been getting new locks but never got around to it..... until I broke the key of in the lock. So I had to bring the grinder and cut through the lock. I was going to get the combo lock that has the numbers on the bottom so I can always set them to zero and be able to open the locks in the dark. I got to Lowe's and they have a new Speed Lock..... MMMMMMmmmmmm me like the word SPEED in a product. You just set the lock to the combinations of directions you move the button on the lock and it opens. Easy to set, and easy to to manipulate to get it open. You only need one hand to do it and never need to look at it to manipulate the lock. I will have to see how it holds up. It is a Master Lock Speed Dial.

Tres Cool

That lock looks way too cool. I also really like combination locks for the boat - nothing to forget. I forgot the gas for the OB once this season when I took the tank home to 'remember' to fill it up next time I went out . The less to need to remember to take with you, the better.

I also keep a truck key on the boat - so I can lock the my regular keys in the truck , though I have not done that yet at the boat.

Neat lock,
OC

Nice lock but how does it hold up to the elements......I have Master lock small combination padlocks but there not all brass, the shackles are steel and the rest brass so every year I clean them up and paint them, the only all brass or stainless locks I've ever found were keyed and like others have said that'll never work for me

I am not sure how they will hold up. I do like that you can just grab it with one hand and open it without looking at the lock. I often get to my boat pre-dawn to beat the daily heat of south Georgia.

Master Lock has a good solid reputation. I just looked at their web site featuring this lock. Apparently you can set a large number of moves into the combination.

Only if you really want to piss off your wife. :D Changing the preset combination is pretty easy so all the locks on the boat have the same moves, getting the wife to do a long number of moves..... not so much.

I gave up the old style of combination locks when I started needing glasses to open them. I was able to buy a set of 6 locks that all use the same key 4 keys. They are not marine, but a twice yearly squirt of WD40 has kept them functionaing for 8 years now.

By the way, what happens if someone does try to reset the pass code with the shackle closed - see picture

You have to open the lock, move the position of the reset from the bottom to the top, close the lock, open the lock and then complete the series of moves, close the lock and move the reset down. I think they just want to point out that you will not accomplish anything before you go through the required steps. Not sure if you could damage the lock or reset it before it is opened.

Well,.. it would kinda suck if someone could change the combo without opening it. You'd go away for an afternoon, some kid plays with your lock and Abracadabra, you can't get into your boat anymore :cussing:.
