Bought my first sailboat

I picked up a 2001 Hunter 170 with a few cracks on the deck. Nothing on the bottom. I've found a few "how to" instructions for fixing them. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Are there any members in the Hampton VA area? Admittedly, I don't know how to sail but I do want to take a course with my son. Any suggestions on that in the Hampton area would be good too. Otherwise, I'm just a noob introducing himself. I'm sure as I start trying to fix this boat I will have a ton of often asked stupid questions but I will do my best to search before I ask.

Welcome to the 170 owners club!

Regarding the boat, read the Daysailors forum as well as the Owner's Modification page under the Boat Info tab. I also uploaded the crack repair guide under the Resources/Downloads tab. Lot of helpful 146/170 owners on this site.

Lots of ways to learn and you have a nice boat for this effort.
- By a book and take it out
- Local sailing schools
- Local clubs - volunteeer to crew for regattas/weekly races

The SAG Harbor Sailing or the Hampton Sailing clubs are great places to learn. Or you would definitely find a few lessons online. But its best to take a course and get some practical lessons.
