Bottom care
Mattie;Your boat speed will be reduced considerably..depending on amount of growth. Where I sail, the coastal bight of Georgia, we grow great shrimp but also barnacles, algae, etc. I usually have to have my boat, Catalina 30, pulled every other year, cleaned and bottom painted. Last year using SR2 (I think that was it..not looking for invoice). That was in Feb 02. By July there was growth sufficient to be easily noticed at dock and on the water. The major concern is growth on the prop. If your water is like mine.. 7' tides and 7 knot flow a fowled prop will get you in trouble in a hurry as leaving and docking can be very tricky without full power.Perhaps the NC water does not cause the growth we get. Price a hall out and professional job. It will save you many headaches the first time. Then watch what they do, use and etc. I have a diver clean my boat on the off years and still get growth. A great way to prevent is to get on the water and sail that baby..fast.Great sailing and weather.Jim RichardsonOUIJA Saint Simons Island Ga.
