I have finally decided to strip what could be close to 20 layers of bottom paint off my 1989 Catalina 30. I contacted Peel Away about what product I should use since I do not know if there was ever a barrier coat applied or what kind of paint had been used in the past. I was informed to use Peel Away 1 (I bought one gal at Home Depot $26).
Me being the eager type have already applied one application (about a 3 by 3 foot area). Even though it has been cold in Maine, after letting is sit for 24 hours, I gently ran a large mudding knife (10 inches) along the hull as I peeled away the paper. It removed all of the paint but left a slight blueish color on the hull. While the hull has a blueish color in places, it is very smooth. It does not feel like it is a paint build up. I most likely will just paint the hull with no further attempt to remove the blue.
Should I use ablative or unepoxy hard paint ....or something else?
Thanks
