Bottom scrubber

This might be a better post for the racing forum, but it might get more attention here. Last year, my wife saw an ad for a long curved handled bottom scrubber. It appeared to have a wide scrubber with floats on the back-side so that the scrub surface would be held against the bottom. Using this device will remove the green slime which slows the boat ust a bit. We cannot find this tool in any of the marine catalogs. Anybody have any ideas where to get one? Thanks. Dri-Diver

Ken: The device is a dri-diver. They have them at West Marine. They may also have a website. We have one and it works good.

Steve, how well will it work in the sub-tropics?

Steve, Will this product remove enough marine growth to eliviate (or reduce) having to dive the hull to clean her?

Sub-tropics?

Al: They have 2 different pads for the Dri-diver. One is like a scrubbie pad that you would use on dishes. The other is VERY agressive. We do not have the same type of growth to deal with, but I must assume that this would give you a good start if you use it regularly on fairly fresh bottom paint. We probably need some more input here from someone that has used one in a similar area.

Source for the Dri-Diver

As a follow-up, I did a search for the Dri-Diver, and found this web site: http://www.marinestore.com/. There are two sizes available, and West Marine has the smaller size in their on-line catalog. However, both sources were out of stock. I then found a name and address for the manufacturer(?) in California. I called that number and got a residential address. The person I talked with said that there are "garage-shop" operations at the address I gave him, and he has been getting wrong number calls for years. So, I didn't clean my bottom for the 79 mile Scotch Bonnet off-shore race to Canada and back, but came in second place anyway. I do hope to buy the Dri-Diver before Lake Ontario waters heat up over 50 degrees. Perhaps we will get some warm weather in time for the Hunter Association Rendezvous 2000 on July 21-23 here in Rochester. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty
