Appreciate all the advice to Steve's earlier question re blister question. Just pulled my 25 yr old US Yacht 18 out of Crab Orchard Lake in Southern IL ( really scummy) Cleaned it off and found LOTS of blisters in large areas, not just a few isolated big ones ( Acne vs. a few zits). Is this a DOIY job? I don't have garage space so if I do it, it'll be in my driveway. Don't want to get into something I can't finish. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Fair Winds to you.

Big job?

I have heard that rule of thumb is if you can pop and fill each one, do it, but it sounds like this may be more than is practical. I would be tempted to just ignore it with a boat this age and length.

Definitive blister info ----

www.yachtsurvey.com/blisters.htm You will find that many boats have been DESTROYED by DIY 'blister repair'. Ask yourself the question: Would you buy a boat that has questionable previous DIY blister repair? The above URL will hopefully guide you *properly* on the how, what, when of 'good' blister repair. When I buy a boat my preference is for a boat that has had NO blister repair; most boats with DIY repair cause me to 'walk away'. That said, you can do a 'perfect' blister repair; but, its a lot of work and cost. Probably the best course of action is: If the blisters are only into the gelcoat and undelayment matting layer .... simply leave them alone if you arent going to sell the boat in the near future. In most situations, simply 'popping and filling' blisters often will make the condition WORSE as this doesnt correct the 'root' problem. Be careful in your 'remedy' as its easy to turn a 'blister job' into a disaster. :)

THANKS RICH!!- Great Advice

Rich, that website is absolutely great. EVERYBODY SHOULD CHECK IT OUT BEFORE DOING ANY BLISTER REPAIR. A Bottom Peel is way too expensive, so I'm gonna ignore the pox and sail The Irish Rose until it sinks. Thanks for saving me a whole lotta trouble and expense. Fair winds to you.
