I am a teenager who just got into sailing, and i recently bought myself a '74 Catalina 22. It is in desperate need of a bottom job, and I was wondering what the best way to get it lifted was. I am on a stretched budget as it is, so I am trying to avoid boatyard fees, but on the other hand I do not want to damage the boat while pinching pennies. please help. :) thanks -austin

Bottom Repair

Austin, I am also a new C-22 owner. My boat also needs a bottom job. I have sanded everything that I can get too with 180 grit paper, and have been in the process of developing a plan to get my boat off the trailer. I think that I will build some stands to put my boat on, but there will still be a couple areas where I cannot paint. I have a friend, who will lift my boat off the trailer with a crane...makes it nice. I am not sure when I will get around to building my stands and doing my bottom job (probably in the spring), but after I am finished I would consider loaning you my stands. Also, I have a knowledgeable friend who lives in Hurst. I would be glad to contact him to see if he would mind looking at your boat and situation. Andy has a 22, and I know that he has removed the keel from a boat at our club. I think he or Joe did the bottom job on this boat. Drop me an email: williamd@abilenetx.com David
