bottom paint

After just finishing the tedious job of preparing and then painting the bottom of my boat, I was perplexed by one issue. You can walk into a hardware store and purchased a quart of paint for less than $10 and have it shaken. Why can't a marine store (West Marine, Boater's World or Boat US) shake a can of $100 bottom paint. It sure is a pain to try and mix this, especially by hand. Every gallon I've purchased has all the goop in the bottom and it takes quite a bit of time to mix and then you're still not sure how good a job you did. What is the issue?

they do

at least at my WM store, they make a point of telling customers they will shake it or if you aren't planning to paint for a while, to bring it back later to have it done just prior to painting. Guess it depends on what store you frequent. Don

shake it baby

I usually take the bottom paint to the paint store where I buy a couple of brushes, rollers and masking tape and they shake my paint for free.

At my boatyard the paint guy lets me....

use his shaker and mix my paint anytime. I give thanks with a 6-pack. Stirring is not only very hard to do, but doesn't do as well as shaking either.
