thats a subject up to much debate

but, Practical Sailor has an anual eval of the bottom paints, if you subscribe you can get this year's tests in a pdf.

I think you get...

...what you pay for in bottom paint. A "good" modified epoxy (i.e., hard)that would last two seasons (assuming you don't take your boat out of the water)on the Bay is Petit Trinidad. An equally "good" ablative (i.e, soft)multiseason paint is Interlux CSC Micron (and you can take your boat out of the water). Petit is hard to remove when you need to; the Micron is easy. Both are in the $150-160/gal price range and well worth it.

One you can afford

three coats of! Don't get a modified epoxy. I like Interlux CSC Micron. You need a mutli season ablative. The good thing is they wear off so you don't get a build up....

How often?

How often should you redo the bottom paint? I have a 2005 Hunter. I haven't had a look at the bottom yet, but should I plan ($$) to redo every season?

Trinidad

In our area on the west coast almost everyone uses Trinidad. One of my closest friends scrubs hulls for a living. That's all he does and he recommends Trinidad. I usually go 3 years between hauls. By the way, Red has a higher copper content than the other colors.
