I'm thinking about using Micron Extra as I am in mostly in salt water but some of the rivers we go into are fresh. Our Micron 66 cornflaked after a couple of weeks on a mooring ball in brackish water.
I can't comment on your longevity question (not having to deal with boating "seasons") but Micron Extra will work fine in fresh or brackish water. Micron 66 is formulated for saltwater only and will be ruined by prolonged exposure to anything else, as you now know.

How about a boat painted with ablative paint that is only in the water 4 or 5 months of the year, any idea how long that should last ?

I would wonder about the rub marks from the straps when she is hauled out - it can rub off the ablative. If you have it hauled out regularly you may find yourself doing touch ups constantly? Just my 2 pence worth there. Someone else may chime in and tell you whether hard is going to be better for you considering your haul out schedule or whether my concern is not too serious.

Fwiw I use an ablative here in Florida called Marpro Super B Gold, 2 coats and I get 3 years with it.

Hard paints typically cannot withstand prolonged exposure to air, making them unsuitable for boats that are hauled regularly.

Thanks for the advice. I'm hauled in the Hinckley yard in Port Salerno, just north of Jupiter. They use plastic sheets under the straps, seems to help. I think the pressure washing could be the issue from what I have observed. I think if we have good bottom paint we may not need any pressure wash or at least much less aggressive :D
