This year has seen a lot of slime on the bottom. The good news is that there is very little room for barnacles. I used Pettit Horizons. Any suggestions for the Chesapeake?

slime won't stop barnacles. they love the stuff. clean off the slime periodically. I used Ultra two years ago and it is working very well and I am right in a barnacle farm, probably the worst spot in the world forbarnacles, and oysters and all kinds of other critters like spunges and anemones etc etc.

I use Pettit Trinidad and it's lasted four years. Did a great job.

I have used West Marine PCA Gold for the last two years, both years I had some minor slime, and zero barnicles. I launched in late April, and got hauled out this past Monday, and didn't clean the bottom once this year.

When they went to pressure wash the hull they asked me what paint I used, since my hull was the cleanest boat they hauled out this year.

That looks fine, Brian.. Practical Sailor rated it as one of their recommended paints at 20 months. It is made by Pettit ..

yup, just confirming my results match theirs...

Any idea what the Pettit brand equavlant is? I know it was mentioned in one of the reviews (probably the 6 or 12 month PS review) but I cannot find it anymore.

I was just reading the latest on line and they didn't mention in that article.. I know they did mention the Pettit equivalent, but I can't seem to put my fingers on the article. Seems like the WM paint was less expensive than the Pettit brand ..?? I have to do mine in the spring and that is most likely what I'll be using. Your pictures tell the story !

I think it was listed in the 6 or the 12 month test, but I don't know where that issue went to...

I managed to get it on sale in the spring for $120/gal, it's normally about $170/gal, I'm pretty sure the regular Petit branded version (whatever it is) is more than $170/gal...

Long Island Sound, Salt water

I actually think most of that slime built up recently as I was tied up in the Housatonic River for the past ~4 weeks waiting to haul out (I had them leave me in until late as I was hoping to get one more sail in, but the weather and schedule didn't allow it), the bottom looked much cleaner when I delivered her up there at the end of October.

Gary, where do you get your Pettit? Please don't say on Eastwood Rd..
No, I got it at the boatyard, Wilmington Marine Center. up the Cape Fear near marker#59. used to be Gregory Pool Marine. You can get it @ WM though.

The Trinidad is not an ablative paint. It is a hard paint.

This is 7 months after applying new Petit bottom paint. I like the term barnicals farm. If there is such a thing, it's at my marina

Pretty sure the WM PCA Gold is the same or very similar formulation to Pettit Ultima SR-40. ablative, multi-season, 40% copper, Irgarol anti-slime,, Good Stuff.
