Our 2002 356 last had bottom paint 3 seasons ago. The SV has never seen salt (great lakes only)...We have owned it for two seasons. Thinking it's time to apply new paint. What product would you recommend? Also, is it necessary to sand the old finish? Currently there is no visible flaking or delamination....only a couple minor rubbed or worn off spots...fist sized areas.
Thanks for your information.

VC17 is only compatible with other vinyl paints. If you wish to go to a non-vinyl paint, you must remove the VC17.

I need to ask, "Why are you doing this?" You have no barnacles or blisters? I have just spent 3 weeks sanding and applying bottom paint that had lasted 6 years here in Florida. I only pulled the boat because the diver said it was time. This was a rotten job. The sanding took forever and the cost ran somewhere around $1200+ counting the haul, 2 burned up sanders, sanding disks, rollers etc and Trinidad SR. I worked 5 days a week and sanding everyday until I couldn't move my arms. If I get 6 years again I will be in my 70's and will gladly pay someone to do it.

Doing your own bottom is a sure cure for 2 footitis.

I would not change a thing with your bottom paint. It seams most people have VC17 on their boats around me.

With VC17, you just need to put another coat on each season. The amount of work to reapply VC17 is minimal compared to others. When people pull their boats in the winter, they pressure wash the bottom. In the spring, they put a coat or two of VC17 (and it goes on quickly). I believe you apply a cleaner before you put on the VC17.

I'm leaning towards soda blasting my bottom and putting VC17 on it in the spring. Mine has too many coats of ablative paint on it.

The current bottom paint is vc17
I also sail on the Great Lakes (Lake Michigan), and I apply VC-17 every other year. It helps keep the algae growth down and your hull cleaner though out the season. Obviously, you should power wash the hull at haul out every year. I keep a little VC-17 around for touching up any areas on the "off year".
