HI,

I have used the INterlux Anti Fouling bottom paint on my Hunter 260. Just for some general advice I am curious as to haw often everyone paints the bottom of their boats. I am in a fresh water lake and the bottom seems to be in fairly good shape. There are a few chips in areas but mostly the bottom is covered.

I was thinking about skipping the sanding and painting this year????
Your opinions would be appreciated.

I don't paint my bottom every year. Last year it was just a spot job. This year its the whole bottom on advice/coercion of the yard. I clean my bottom regularly during the season. ]The yard uses Interlux BottomCoat with blah blah blah. I'll still have to clean it.
When I had a hard bottom ie VC Offshore I didn't paint every year either. I really couldn't notice much difference between when it was painted and when it wasn't. We're in salt water - maybe the temp gets to 70 degrees for a few weeks.

I think it depends the condition of the lake you are sailing in. I am on the Mississippi behind lock and dam #7. We have zebra muscles. I use VC17 every year. It is easy to apply and keeps the zebra's off. I skipped a year and the muscles found a few spots to stick to. Good Sailing

Thank You all

I am in a lske roughly 90 mile south of Erie. The bottom of my boat is in fairly good condition. I may touch it up a bit. A light sanding in spots and use the remaining interlux I have.

I know some guys who boat in our PIttsburgh rivers and several of them have never painted their bottoms. These are all large power boats. Hey, the rivers are very nice but a little cruddier than the lake where I sail.

Be well, God Be in your wind.
