I need to paint my 216 bottom. At purchase, I was told I had to use a specific paint or I could "melt" the hull. This paint (Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote ACT) is not longer made. Can't seem to get an answer from Hunter - anyone out there with suggestions? Thanks

Try checking with Interlux on their website, they may have something to replace the ACT that will be fine for your boat. I have a 216 also and it will be interesting to see what you come up with. Ray

I too want to paint the bottom of my H216. I'll see what I can find out also.

It's the color

Scott, The issue with the bottom paint is the color. The dark color common with most bottom paints causes heat build up that is not good for the ACP hull material of the 216. I used Fiberglass BottomKote ACT (Grey/White) my first three seasons and switched to Micron CSC (Shark White) the past two seasons on my 216. I changed to the Micron CSC because I could haul the boat and launch it the next season without the need to repaint the bottom. I got 2 years out of one bottom painting. /Ernie

Bottom Paint 216

Hi and thanks for the info. I found a company that could order the Bottomkote so I did but think I may try your suggestion. When talking to Hunter, they never mentioned the heat issue, therefore I ordered the wrong color (they had red, blue and green), no light colors. I'll probably have to eat the cost since special ordered but I have another boat (Cornish Crabber) that I may be able to use it on. Great site, wish I'd found it earlier. Love the 216 design, not so much the company. Sail On!

I have to agree with Mr. Ernie. The MICRON CSC and CSC Extra work exceptionaly well. I put two coats on my 216 3 years ago when I bought it. I used blue ove grey. This will be the boats forth year with out repainting. I am just starting to see some of the grey through the blue. The blue paint did not seem to heat up the hull to much. Dark colored paints on any fiberglass or composite is usually a bad idea. It can cause the hull to heat up enough to the point where the composites suffer some strength loss. Gary
