I like Ablative
I had several years of built-up epoxy bottom paint let go and had to go through a pretty major scraping/sanding job to get it down to the gel coat. After that, I decided to go with the ablative type of paint (wears off as you go through the water). So far I like it fine. My boat has spent equal time in the Belhaven area (near you) and Annapolis and even though some of the recommendations were to stay away from ablative for a slow-moving sailboat that does not get used every week, I went with it and like it. I have used the Interlux Micron CSC, Petit ACP 50, and am now using the West Marine CPP brand. My preference is for the West Marine paint. Loaded with Cuprous Oxide, good price, and goes on well. Am on my second season with my last paint job and am leaning toward going for another -- never an option with the other paints. (I also agree that if you are down to the gel coat, a barrier coat is a good idea.) You'll get lots of different opinions about bottom paints. BruceCatwalk (h34)bchase3@aol.com
