HI all, Hey, a simple question. I have a 1972 Oday 23' Just curious, would my 23', which has a keel stepped, hold a me up on a bosun chair if I needed to go up the mast for any repairs, etc? Just a thought, because the standing rigging is in really good condition, just curious if the mast, spreaders/forestay/backstay hold up the weight of a grown adult. I'm 36 and 200lbs. (not happy about sharing that fact openly ..BUT...) Mark

oday 22 holds up

I regularly shimmy the mast of my 75 oday 22 (deck-stepped), stand and sit on the spreaders, and various acrobatics to accomodate hard reaches for repairs and it feels plenty stable. As for loading the mast from the masthead and putting the weight on the halyard and block for the boatswain's chair, I don't know the exact pounds of the forces involved, but i've heeled the boat over 10-15 degrees with halyard cleated to a piling for a short time and wind loads on heavy days might put that same pressure on the masthead hardware. weight: 160

I've been

as far as the spreaders on our 23 and felt secure in doing it. If I was to go all the way to the masthead I would want to inspect all the standing rigging again just to be sure. Even then I would keep the acrobatics to a minimum

bosun chair oday 23

My mast on my Oday 23 is keel stepped, so I would imagine that would lend more support as for my weight going up the mast if I rigged a bosun chair on the mainsheet halyard. thoughts? Mark
